There have been a lot of questions regarding what is happening with MW2 and how it effects NC.   We as an officers group wanted to take this time to express our thoughts about the actions of Infinity Ward.

If you're not familiar with what Infinity Ward decided to do to the PC community and what it means to on-line gaming, you can watch the youtube post that Cheney posted in the forums.  It does a great job of laying out what IW said and what it means to us.  You can see it here: http://www.new-centurions.com/index.php?option=com_kunena&Itemid=81&func=view&catid=21&id=4789#4793   As long as IW ward stands by this decision NC will not be able to support MW2.

As some have noticed we have added "Boycott MW2" to the names of our four servers to show that we are supporting others in NOT buying MW2.  We as leadership of this community cannot tell you as members and guests how to spend your money but many of us and many PC gamers have canceled their pre-orders of MW2.

The next thing that we have decided to do is to support the Global Stand Down.  This means that at midnight on Tuesday November 10th we will shut down all the COD servers for 24 hours.  I apologize in advance if this causes anyone distress but to put it perspective here is a quote from Angry Employee.com, "The Stand-Down has the potential to be the biggest joint effort and remarkable statement of solidarity ever seen in the International Gaming Community.

This moreover will of course halt Infinity wards master servers and bring them to a standstill: They can then instantly view which ip's they have temporarily lost the world over.

IW will immediately understand how wide spread and deep routed our feelings are.

A true testement of our commitment and buying power.

We are not ready to give up this fight and simply accept that this is a done deal, there is fuel for our already raging fires yet.
"

If you haven't signed the petition and would like to do so, you can go here: http://www.petitiononline.com/dedis4mw/petition.html  There are over 151,000 signatures already and I encourage everyone to sign it also.

The last thing I would like to address is what this means for NC.  The bottom line is that it does not effect our community at all.  Even though COD was the primary means by which everyone originally found NC, the reason folks have joined or stuck around is because of the people in this community.  Right now we are planning to continue to support COD 4 and COD 5.  If things change with MW2 we will take another look at the possibility of supporting the game but right now that doesn't seem possible.  In the future there will be other non-COD games that we will take a look at and determine if it will meet the needs of our community.

+1 B7.

If IW won't support the community centric gameplay we've come to love,
they get none of my financial support.

So it's W@W and I'll learn to like
Golf like DomaN8 did

Very well said B. I'd have no problem going back to COD4 OW, but either way I
absolutely support everything you have said.

Here is a message I received from Jerry today:
"Well, here are my feelings,
in general, on things of this ilk.
The entire concept of a 'gaming community'
implies the open and unfettered interchange of ideas. To essentially segregate
what amounts to a new part of that community (a neighborhood, if you will) is
completely counter to the basic idea of maintaining an atmosphere in which ideas
and works are freely interchanged, thus progressing and often transforming the
entire gaming experience.
Now, I not suggesting nor implying that games go the
route of 'freeware' or open source/GNU style, but to make a game that will allow
NO option for the public to add their collective input to, is to stifle progress
and ultimately bring gaming to an arcade level experience.
For the record,
arcades are not doing well at all, and almost universally have provided a
horrible experience to the avid gamer.

Continued:

IW will be making a virtual ghetto for their MW2 players to be
corralled in. This is certainly NOT what a company that develops, distributes,
and sells products that have short shelve lives if not for theie ability to
continually move forward using the gaming community as both a vehicle and a
partner.

And that is really what the gaming community is looking for in the
company they but their game from, a partner. Someone that understands that all
stand to benefit when everyone can help move a game forward through a new mod,
or patch a problem, etc..

But hey, I am just a 48 y.o. I.T. executive of 20+
years....what would I know about this?

Petition signed, and fully back our officers and members in the decision for not
going to MW2 until Infinity Ward allows dedicated servers such as our own to run
in conjunction with the game, on the other hand, ive been PC gaming for roughly
13 or so years and never in my life heard of such a move that Infinity Ward is
making, so obviously I am all for staying with COD 4 or WaW

Hey everyone...

Lots of Chatter about this game here at RCMP training. Glad I
bounced over to the board to read this. I'll share some of the information with
my troop mates.

Take care
